Where do authors get their ideas? How do they turn them into books? How do you get a book published?  I love sharing my journey from story idea to publication with students of all ages and want to inspire them to write their own stories!

I present to students in grades K – 9 as well as to educators, librarians and families at family literacy events. My school visits are designed to work with your school’s curriculum and I can adapt my presentations to meet your school’s needs.

The Details

School visits are generally half day or full-days, and individual sessions are 45-60 minutes long and include a behind-the-scenes PPT presentation showing the editing, storyboarding and publication process.  Depending on the age-range, I will provide a candid look inside the creative process from inspiration to draft, to revisions, rejections, and finally publication. Sessions can also include a hands-on story-generating activity where students create their own stories based on prompts and ideas we come up with together!

With humor, visuals, and personal anecdotes, I begin my presentations to middle school and high school groups by talking about how I became an author, how I develop stories and characters, my writing process, and the pitfalls and pleasures of the publishing process.

For younger students, we can do a craft around one of my popular books such as PAINTING PEPETTE where we explore painting and portraiture.

For older students, I use my picture books as a starting point to discuss the filmmaking process showing the similarities between writing and creating children’s books, and making feature films.

Cost

For a cost quote, please send me an e-mail (l.lodding@gmail.com) and tell me a bit about your needs. For visits outside the Stockholm area, my fee may include travel, lodging and transportation expenses.

Virtual School Visits

For those far-flung schools, I’m happy to do 30-minute Skype visits.

Hear what people are saying:

“Thank you again for a fantastic day, the kids, teachers and parents were raving about you!”

Nancy, School Librarian Futuraskolan International School of Stockholm

“Thank you so much for a wonderful author visit! I am going to let the European librarians know!”
